Coricone 1700 Sealer for Non-Ferrous Metals
(Also available in 12 oz aerosol cans)

Product Description

Coricone 1700 Metal Sealer® is a clear, low viscosity chemical solution that fills and penetrates surface pores where corrosion and discoloration begin. It is the low-cost alternative to anodizing or conversion coating. In moments, Coricone 1700 can be sprayed, dipped, wiped or brushed onto aluminum, zinc, copper, magnesium or cadmium; filling and penetrating surface pores; drying in minutes, and leaving a tough, flexible, micro-thin protective barrier to corrosion or discoloration. Dimensional tolerances are not affected. For use primarily on non-ferrous metals, it provides an excellent barrier against the effects of weathering, moisture, sunlight, oils, acid fumes, temperature extremes and galvanic action. Coricone 1700 meets MIL-C-82594 and exceeds the corrosion requirements of MIL-C-5541, MIL-E-5272, MIL-A-8625, MIL-C-16173 and MIL-C-23411.

Advantages

  • Protects untreated parts from corrosion and discoloration.
  • A highly economical substitute for non-spec anodizing.
  • A low cost alternative to conversion coating.
  • Increases capability of anodizing and conversion coating when used as a supplemental sealer.
  • Provides a lasting base for paints, coatings and caulks.
  • Prevents corrosion caused by electrolysis between dissimilar metals.
  • Guards against weathering, moisture, mildew, sunlight, oils, acid fumes, airborne contaminants, industrial air pollution, temperature extremes and galvanic action.
  • Protects parts from corrosion and discoloration.
  • Economical alternative to no-spec anodizing and conversion coating.
  • Long lasting base for paints, coatings and caulks.
  • Effective bonding agent for paints, architectural sealants and caulks.
  • Prevents corrosion caused by electrolysis between dissimilar metals.
  • Never yellows, peels or flakes.
  • Resists staining caused by mortar, plaster and concrete.
  • Cleans up quickly and easily.
  • Meets and exceeds corrosion resistance requirements of MIL-C-5541, MIL-E-5272, MIL-A-8625, MIL-C-16173, MIL-C-23411 and MIL-C-82574.

Packaging, Storage and Handling

  • Packaging: Available in aerosol containers, gallon and five-gallon cans.
  • Shelf Life: Three years in unopened container. Tightly reseal sight-free container after each use.
  • Surface Preparation: Surface and surface pores must be clean, dry, oil-and was-free. Remove oils and polishing residue with solvent, such as acetone or equal, or wash with hot soapy water and rinse with hot water. Permit all cleaning materials to evaporate from surface pores.
  • Application: No mixing required. Apply at temperatures between 45°F and100°F with conventional or electrostatic spray, quick-dip, flow, brush or wipe.
  • Dry Time: 2 to 3 minutes at room temperature. Part may be carefully handled when dry.
  • Curing: 8 days at room temperature; or oven cure at 300°F for 10 to 15 minutes depending on metal thickness.
  • Laboratory Testing: DO NOT commence accelerated laboratory testing until complete curing has occurred. (See above)
  • As a Bonding Base: Allow surface to dry a minimum of 3 hours at room temperature or oven cure for 10 minutes at 300°F prior to application of paint, coating or caulk.
  • Removal: Before curing: remove by vapor degreasing or washing with solvent. After curing: use hot caustics.
  • Clean-Up Solvent: Xylene, Acetone, MEK or equal.
  • Clean Up: Uncured compound may be removed from spatulas, trowels, other tools with water.
Safety: Handle in accordance with materials safety handling instructions.
